How to Use • Read the safety page first, and ask at home how your family cares for Gopal: which verses, which bhog and which days • Pick one of three ways to begin: the ten-minute seva, the daily round of about thirty minutes spread through the day, or the festival days • Set up Gopal's corner with the checklist and the seva kit list, then fill in My Weekly Seva Plan once • Keep the four quick cards by Gopal's corner and on the fridge, for whoever is on seva today Read This First: Safety • Only an adult lights, moves or puts out a lamp, incense or camphor; use a metal plate or holder, keep flames away from cloth, curtains, garlands and hair, keep a window or door open, never leave a flame unattended and leave nothing burning at night • Children never light, carry or blow out a lamp, incense, camphor or sparklers; in the kitchen, children help only once the mixture has cooled or off the heat, and an adult does all the stove work • Camphor is optional: an adult lights one pea-sized piece on a metal holder, and the rest is kept locked away from children and pets • Crowns, beads, flutes and ornaments are choking hazards: keep them in a closed box, out of reach of children under five • Whole nuts and hard mishri crystals can choke children under five; no honey for babies under one, including pañcāmṛt; keep milk sweets cool and share them the same day • Test bath water on the inside of your wrist: lukewarm, never hot, and cool hot milk before offering or sharing it • Care depends on what the murti is made of: brass, aṣṭadhātu, copper and silver can have a water bath; plain marble takes plain water only, with no lemon or acids; painted resin, painted marble, clay and wood get no water bath, only a soft cloth and a few drops of water with a flower; no pañcāmṛt on painted, resin or marble murtis; plated, lacquered or painted murtis get a soft cloth only, with no tamarind, lemon or salt • Put a non-slip mat under Gopal's seat so a pet or a slammed door cannot knock him down • Seva is devotion, not medicine: if you are unwell, see a doctor; fasting is optional and not for children; for a burn, cool it under running water for twenty minutes; in an emergency call 112 in India or your local emergency number What It Is • A practical guide to caring for a Laddu Gopal or Bal Gopal murti at home, with your family's custom first • Plain Words: Laḍḍū Gopāl, Bāl Gopāl, murti, sevā, abhiṣek, pañcāmṛt, śṛṅgār, bhog, prasād, ārtī, śayan, tulsī, vātsalya • Family Custom First: what this book does and what it leaves to your family, temple and teacher • Setting up Gopal's corner, and the seva kit: essentials first, the rest as gifts or as your seva grows The Daily Seva • Waking Gopal gently, with the waking verse • The bath (abhiṣek), step by step, and caring for the murti by material in a simple table • Dressing and śṛṅgār, and clothes through the year, with a note on sizes and washing • Bhog: what is often offered and what is usually not, offering bhog step by step, and food safety in warm weather • A simple aarti, with or without a flame • Rest and night: putting Gopal to bed, and why no lamp is left burning at night • A day on one page Gopal in the Family • Children and Gopal: real jobs by age, from ringing the bell to telling a story to younger ones • A gentle weekly rhythm and My Weekly Seva Plan • When you miss a day: the one-minute seva, with no penalty and nothing to make up • Travelling with Gopal, or leaving him at home in someone's care • Troubleshooting: dull brass, ants, tight clothes, musty clothes, chips and cracks, pets and toddlers The Verses • Five short verses in Devanagari and Roman letters, with plain meanings written by VedicWe: the waking verse uttiṣṭhottiṣṭha govinda, the first verse of the Bāla Mukunda Aṣṭakam, Bhagavad Gītā 9.26, the household offering verse tvadīyaṃ vastu govinda, and the aarti line āratī kuñjabihārī kī • Saying them well: a short pronunciation table Festivals with Gopal • Janmāṣṭamī at home, and a simple Janmāṣṭamī night of about forty-five minutes, with the swing, the bath and the midnight bhog • Annakūṭ and Govardhan Pūjā, simply, at home • Kārtik with Gopal, and swings, flowers and other days through the year • Festival dates for New Delhi: Govardhan Pūjā Tue 10 Nov 2026, Gopāṣṭamī Tue 17 Nov 2026, Devutthāna Ekādaśī Fri 20 Nov 2026, Kārtik Pūrṇimā Tue 24 Nov 2026, Janmāṣṭamī Wed 25 Aug 2027 and more.
